As per the rules of HBNI, the Ph.D. Programme consists of course work of one year duration and research work of up to 4 years’ duration.

Eligibility
Qualification: A). For physics candidates: M.Sc degree in physics with a minimum of 60% marks, and who have cleared joint Entrance Screening. Test (JEST 2011)
B). For Chemistry and Life Sciences Candidates: M.Sc. degree with minimum 60% marks, in Chemistry or life Sciences, and who have cleared joint CSIR –UGC Net-June, 2010 and / or GATE 2011, are eligible to apply.

The Selection of the students for the Ph.D Programme will be a two-step process: 1) Screening of short-list candidates, followed by 2) Interview of the short-listed candidates. For physics candidates, the short –list shall be papered based on applicant’s score in JEST 2011. For Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates, the shore list shall be prepared based on applicant’s score in CSIR-UGC NET – June 2010 and  / or GATE-2011.
